Welcome to Viscerama. Thank you so much for your support. This project is the product of weeks of work, years of friendship, and a common love for Lenawee county and its people. All proceeds from our magazine go toward the Lenawee County Education Foundation Endowment, the Lenawee Community Foundation Fund, and the Imagination Library.

Going forward, we imagine Viscerama as a potential home for the art and writing of local youth; an informative resource for young artists on creating, publishing, and self care; and a community of self-expression and mutual support. In our first issue, "michicanx," our contributing staff thought about our own experiences growing up in Adrian and how it is intrinsically tied to our Chicanx culture. In those pages, you’ll see the complexity of the relationship we each have with our latinidad—how sometimes being a midwestern Mexican-American can feel like a target on your back, a pebble in your shoe, or a magnetic force pulling you towards a community and, for us, each other.

We hope you enjoy reading this magazine as much as we enjoyed making it. We’re looking forward to the journey ahead and we are so glad you’re here.
